This new series of pieces enters into the spirit of the Beatitudes of Jesus Christ, in the gospel according to Saint Matthew. We all seek happiness: God gives us the living path to it here. It is a path that goes against the grain of the recipes for selfish well-being that the world offers us, but it is a path of peace and hope.

May this music help you meditate on this first beatitude:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
The poor in spirit are those who put the pursuit of virtues first: love and trust in God (the source of true love); charity towards the weak and enemies; the poor in spirit do not have idolatry and excessive attachment to the various riches that life brings: material ease, social recognition, intellectual pride. The wealth of the poor in spirit is the peace that love of God and neighbor gives him; his consolation in trials is the certainty that the search for virtues will procure him eternal life.

Cette nouvelle série de morceaux entre dans l'esprit des Béatitudes de Jésus-Christ, dans l'évangile selon Saint Mathieu. Nous recherchons tous le bonheur : Dieu nous en donne ici le chemin vivant. C'est un chemin qui est à contre-courant des recettes du bien-être égoïste que nous propose le monde, mais c'est un chemin de paix et d'espérance.

Que cette musique vous aide à méditer sur cette première béatitude :

« Heureux les pauvres en esprit, car le royaume des cieux est à eux »
Les pauvres en esprit sont ceux qui mettent à la première place la recherche des vertus : amour et confiance en Dieu (la source du véritable amour) ; charité envers les plus faibles et les ennemis ; les pauvres en esprit n'ont pas d'idolâtrie et d'attachement excessif envers les différentes richesses que la vie apporte : aisance matérielle, reconnaissance sociale, orgueil intellectuel. La richesse du pauvre en esprit est la paix que lui procure l'amour de Dieu et du prochain ; sa consolation dans les épreuves est la certitude que la recherche des vertus lui procurera la vie éternelle.
